Best GEX Tools for 0DTE SPX Trading (2026)

The best tools for tracking gamma exposure (GEX) for 0DTE SPX show dealer gamma for the same-day SPXW expiration, strike by strike, updated live through the session, with the sign of each node visible and SPY and QQQ one glance away. Around that map, 0DTE traders usually add a chart with the levels on it, a live options tape, and a room where people read the market out loud. Skylit's Heatseeker shows dealer GEX at every SPX strike and expiration, stars the King Node, and puts SPXW, SPY and QQQ side by side in Trinity Mode. It is included with the Initiate plan for the index symbols (SPX, SPXW, SPY, QQQ, IWM, DIA and VIX) and with Pro across 5,000+ tickers, and every plan includes daily Live Stages inside the Skylit app (see plans).

Why GEX Matters for 0DTE SPX

Gamma exposure measures how much dealers' hedges have to change as price moves. Gamma scales roughly as 1/√T, so short-dated options carry the most of it, and at 0DTE gamma and charm dominate same-day behaviour: pins and breaks rule intraday. That is why 0DTE traders read GEX at all: it shows where hedging is concentrated heavily enough that price may stall, bounce or speed up.

Two things follow for the tools you pick:

  • You need the same-day column. Skylit's Heatseeker guide puts it plainly: on indexes, day traders watch the same-day (0DTE) column; on single names, the nearest expiration. A tool that only shows one aggregate GEX number for SPX hides the column that matters most.
  • You need it live. The map can change within minutes, and when it reshuffles, old levels may stop mattering. A level from the open, or from yesterday's close, is not the level you trade into at 2pm.

Sign matters too. In Skylit's lessons, a positive node dampens moves and gives smoother reactions, and a negative node gives wicky, fast moves that can overshoot before they reverse. Positive does not mean bullish and negative does not mean bearish; the sign describes how price tends to move through a level, not which way. See dealer positioning for the mechanics behind dealer GEX.

What to Look For in a 0DTE GEX Tool

  • Strike-by-expiration view with the 0DTE column. Rows for strikes, columns for expirations, so the same-day column is readable on its own.
  • Live intraday updates. Update intervals vary across the category; check how often a tool refreshes before you rely on it for same-day levels.
  • Sign on every node. Read the number and its minus sign, not just the colour.
  • SPX, SPY and QQQ together. Index traders read the three as one system and look for agreement.
  • Rate of change. Whether a node is building or melting as price approaches.
  • Replay. A way to check whether price has already reached a level today, and to study past sessions.
  • Alerts on levels. So you do not have to stare at the board waiting for a tap.
  • People who read it live. A room where someone shares their screen and explains the read while the market moves.
💡Core Idea

For 0DTE, the question isn't only "where is the biggest GEX?" It's "where is it in today's column, is it growing or shrinking, is price already there, and do SPY and QQQ agree?"

The Heatseeker Framework for 0DTE SPX

The King Node

The King Node is the strike with the highest absolute GEX value on the board, positive or negative. It is where market makers hold the greatest exposure. Heatseeker marks it with a star, and Center on King Node keeps the board scrolled to it.

Skylit's lessons teach two common behaviours around the King. Late in the session, market makers often pin price near it, and traders watch the edges of the tight range that forms. Early in the day, when price reaches the King too soon, market makers may push it away. Both are teaching, not tested results, and because the King can be negative, it is not always a stabilizing level.

Gatekeepers

Gatekeepers are prominent nodes between price and the King Node that can block the way there. The Academy compares them to bouncers at the door. If price tests a Gatekeeper and fails, the map can reshuffle, and a reshuffle often comes before a change in where dealers are leaning. Check where a Gatekeeper sits against price and the King before you lean on it.

The SPX deflection margin

Nodes rarely reject to the exact cent. On SPX, expect a deflection margin of roughly 5 to 10 points around a node such as the King. A reaction a few points short of the strike can still be a reaction to it. On SPY and QQQ the tolerance is much smaller, so read each index on its own scale. The execution doctrine covers how the Academy uses these zones.

Trinity Mode: SPXW, SPY and QQQ

Trinity Mode shows SPXW, SPY and QQQ side by side by default, on GEX, and you can change the instruments or add panels (up to six). Open it from Heatseeker or press Shift+T on the Heatmaps page. When the three disagree, many traders stand aside; the lessons differ on whether two of three agreeing is enough. See the Trinity Mode guide.

Velocity, replay and alerts

  • Velocity shows which nodes are growing or shrinking over a timeframe you pick, from 1 minute to 1 day. For day trades, many traders use 5 to 15 minutes, because 1 minute flips every bar. That is a habit, not a tested setting.
  • Replay plays the board forward from any past date and time, with 1+ years of history at 1-minute granularity. The board does not flag which levels are fresh and which price has already reached, so replay is how you check. On index tickers you can jump straight to NY OPEN.
  • Alerts come straight from the board: right-click a node for an approach alert or a tap alert, and follow the King by role even if it moves to another strike.

Events that move the map

OPEX week, FOMC, CPI, NFP and the last half hour of the session can distort or reshuffle the map. Large hedge nodes far from price often appear around these events and act more like insurance than magnets. On those days, re-read the board before relying on earlier levels.

⚠️Warning

Heatseeker shows where dealers are positioned; it does not predict direction and it is not a trade signal. Many traders wait for price action to confirm a level before they act. 0DTE options can lose their entire value within the session.

The Rest of a 0DTE Workflow in Skylit

  • Atlas (Pro) puts Heatseeker levels on a live chart of SPXW, or of futures such as ES1 and NQ1. In Settings, set Expirations to Front for 0DTE and scalps. A Shift+H heatmap panel and a Shift+T Trinity panel open beside the chart. See Atlas.
  • Flowseeker streams every options print with its side, premium and size against open interest. Filter by days to expiry and save the setup as its own tab, such as "0DTE SPY". Flowseeker is on every plan.
  • Talon (Pro) answers /levels SPXW or "Do SPX, SPY and QQQ agree right now?" from the same live data, without telling you what to buy or sell.
  • Daily Live Stages run inside the Skylit app. Hosts share their screens and talk through the market, the tools and their process; you can chat, ask to speak, catch up with an AI recap if you join late, and rewatch any recorded stage with its transcript. Community hears Live Stages as audio only; Initiate and Pro also see the shared screen. See live trading rooms for options day traders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best tools for tracking gamma exposure (GEX) for 0DTE SPX?

Look for a tool that shows dealer GEX for the same-day SPXW expiration strike by strike, updates live through the session, shows the sign of every node, and lets you read SPY and QQQ next to SPX. Skylit's Heatseeker does that on one board: rows for strikes, columns for expirations, the King Node starred, and Trinity Mode for SPXW, SPY and QQQ side by side. OptionsDepth, SpotGamma's TRACE, VolSignals' VS3D, TradeEcho's DealerEdge and QuantData also offer intraday exposure views, each with a different focus.

What tools do professional 0DTE traders use?

Most 0DTE workflows combine four kinds of tool: a dealer-positioning map for the same-day levels, a chart with those levels on it, a live options tape, and a room or team to read the market with. In Skylit those are Heatseeker, Atlas (Pro), Flowseeker and daily Live Stages inside the app, with the Trader Success team on every plan. Whatever you use, the decision on each trade stays yours.

What is the King Node in 0DTE SPX trading?

The King Node is the strike with the highest absolute GEX value on the Heatseeker board, positive or negative. It is where market makers hold the greatest exposure. Skylit's lessons teach that price is often pinned near it late in the session and may be pushed away if it arrives too early; that is teaching, not a tested result.

What are Gatekeepers?

Gatekeepers are prominent nodes between price and the King Node that can block the way there. If price tests a Gatekeeper and fails, the map can reshuffle, which often comes before a change in where dealers are leaning.

How close does SPX need to get to a node to count as a reaction?

On SPX, expect a deflection margin of roughly 5 to 10 points around a node such as the King. Nodes rarely reject to the exact cent, so a reaction a few points short of the strike can still be a reaction to it.

What does Trinity Mode show?

Trinity Mode shows SPXW, SPY and QQQ side by side by default, on GEX, so you can see whether the three indexes agree. You can change the instruments and add up to six panels. When they disagree, many traders stand aside.

Which Skylit plan do I need for 0DTE SPX?

Initiate includes Heatseeker in the Skylit web app for SPX, SPXW, SPY, QQQ, IWM, DIA and VIX, plus Live Stages with screen viewing. Pro adds Heatseeker across 5,000+ tickers, Atlas, Talon and 1:1 Success Sessions. Community members see index maps through the Heatseeker Bot in the Skylit Discord. See the pricing section at skylit.ai/#pricing for current prices.

Does GEX predict where SPX will go today?

No. GEX shows where dealers are positioned and where hedging is concentrated, which is where price may stall, bounce or speed up. It does not predict direction. The map can change within minutes, and many traders wait for price action to confirm a level before acting.
